EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) is an important active component of green tea leaves (Camellia sinensis). It is valued for its antioxidant properties and has been studied extensively for weight loss through its positive effects on fat metabolism, and for its role in supporting general health and well-being.
This is oxidative stress
Oxidative stress is an internal chemical imbalance. It arises when the body itself produces too much of something called "free radicals", or when substances that cause damage are taken into the body (e.g. toxins from the environment, alcohol, substances in cigarette smoke, etc.). Substances shown to help prevent oxidative stress are called antioxidants. Some antioxidants the body can make on its own; others we must supply through the diet or as supplements.
