Calcium and magnesium work together to support the cardiovascular system. Magnesium supports muscle and nerve function and helps the body's metabolism. Calcium maintains healthy heart function and normal growth of colon cells.
Regular exercise and a healthy diet with an adequate intake of calcium help young women and teenagers maintain good bone health and appear to reduce the risk of osteoporosis later in life. For people with osteoporosis in the family, women in menopause and older women and men, an adequate calcium intake is linked to a reduced risk of osteoporosis. An adequate intake of calcium is important, but a daily intake of more than 2,000 mg probably has no additional benefits.
